This occurs because there's a problem with your file type associations in the registry. Fortunately, you needn't edit the registry to fix this problem. Microsoft has an article listing the step-by-step fix below. If it doesn't work, keep reading, there's another article.

In case that article should go away, here's the "fix" portion of the article:

1. Click Browse in the Locate Link Browser dialog box.
2. In the Locate Link Browser dialog box, locate the Iexplore.exe file, click it, and then click Open. By default, this file is located in the c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder.

NOTE: You may have to search your hard disk for this file.
3. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, you may experience a new symptom in which two windows open. When this occurs, one window displays the correct link and one is empty. If you experience this new symptom, go to the next step.
4. Double-click My Computer.
5. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
6. Click the File Types tab.
7. Under Extension, locate the "N/A" entry, and then locate the "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" entry under File Types.
8. Click Advanced.
9. Under Actions, click Open.
10. Click Set Default, and then click OK two times.

The above may not work if you have a browser other than Internet Explorer installed if it doesn't support DDE. If that's the case, you might try the steps included in the article below.

As with the first article, here's the step-by-step portion of that article.

1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the File Types tab.
3. In the Registered File Types list, click URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol, click Advanced, and then click Edit.
4. In the Actions box, type open.
5. In the Application used to perform action box, locate Internet Explorer (Iexplore.exe), and then click Open.
6. In the Application box, type IExplore, and then click OK.
