Problem: You run combofix and get to the point of rebooting to complete the fixes. When you reboot, you get the Windows XP screen, then a black screen, then nothing.
Answer: I fixed this problem by restoring the registry hive files from the C:\Windows\ERDNT\Hiv-backup folder. This folder is available in the Recovery Console.
